Ambling Madly — the travels of a Certified Scrum Trainer
I recently joined Danube Technologies as a trainer, and will be facilitating Scrum Master training at various locations in Europe and the USA throughout 2009. I decided to write a travel blog, with the noble goal of creating one entry per course, and continue over the course of the year. We’ll see.
I have written the first post: #1: Helsinki, January 2008. All subsequent entries will be available on the Danube blog, which also contains great writing from many excellent Scrum trainers. Check it out.
I’ll still be writing here from time to time, so don’t desert this space just yet. My blog life is reflective of my home life: I am somewhat rootless these days, wandering and wondering…

I hope all is OK for you, and wish you the best for the New Year.

Hey Simon,
Why is that “interesting?”
Just curious….

Hi Laszlo.
I hope my reply didn’t come across as insulting. Sorry for the super-slow response here.
I find it interesting that he’s chosen to join an Agile consultancy, given one is often constrained by the company within which one works. I see one of Tobias’ strengths to be his unconventional approach to Agile coaching (witness his Agile conference activities).
Often consultancies can be conventional, sometimes that’s a detriment.
I actually think the fact he was happy to do so reflects well on yourselves.
Cheers,
Simon

Thanks Simon for the response – I appreciate the clarification. I think any company where two personalities as different as say Dan R and Tobias Mayer can not only co-exist but thrive is pretty cool.
We, as management, are very excited about having Tobias on board. His newest concepts of doing the entire 2 day CSM class without slides is something I think others in the community should be jealous of. To add to that, I would say that we’ve been working on and off with Tobias since Jan 2006 (which, incidentally is when I started asking him to join my company).
We, as a form of policy, don’t get involved in the content of the CSM class. There is no doubt each of our 6 active trainers each bring something different to the table – we aren’t interested in commoditizing or creating uniformity.
Only time will tell if our approach will work.
Thanks again for your response – now I understand it more clearly.

I think this move says good things about Danube. How is it working out so far?

Hi Jacob, Danube and I decided to part ways at the end of this month. Seeking different things… We have a good relationship though, and I’m sure we’ll work together again in the future.
